52 AND COUNTING
52 and counting 1
In spite of the daunting
Our diversity takes glory in our nationhood
Yet some query our brotherhood 4
No sovereign National Conference
Will impress enough on our leaders’ conscience
Not to take in vain the labor of our heroes past
But I look to the people and our land, vast 8
Blessed beyond comprehension
And pray that we shall not be our own condemnation
But we shall be free from mental slavery
To let our leaders know that they are to serve us
unwavering 12
We are 52 and counting
Despite our enemies’ taunting
Leaving sorrow, tears and blood
Blowing bombs in the name of no god 16
They that kill us Nigerians
Shall not be known as Nigerians
Be they leaders, law enforcements or religious bigots
Forever the sun of our lands will know them as idiots 20
For there shall be no doubting
When we shall be counting
How we overcame their daunting
Even as we stood strong amidst their taunting 24
Nigeria’s call we should obey
For where we choose to disobey
Many shall be the pieces of our land
Not just of religious divide 28
The rise of more ethnic nations shall not be divine
Nigeria shall own no land
Our joy shall be limited to piece of lands
And without diversity, the glory of our lands 32
What a way to pave paradise
For parking lots to accommodate the paralyzed
Nigerians, know the value of what you own
We must not celebrate for the oil we owe 36
But the blessedness of the land we own
We must celebrate the democracy we own
Not partisan Politicians we owe
Not partisan Politicians we owe
For some choose to sell the rights they own 40
Arise, o compatriots
Celebrate our mother’s land, o patriots
Even if our leaders lie to us
Let us show them it is their lose 44
And deny them that which is not their purse
So, shall we in the face of all this celebrate?
In spite of all that is daunting
Yes, with all our hearts, celebrate 48
Tell of our land that is blessed green
And of our children that are born free
For our father’s banner still stands fluttering
That we are 52 and we are still counting 52
HAPPY BIRTHDAY NIGERIA!
